Introduction
FreeFileSync is a folder comparison and synchronization software that creates and manages backup copies of all your important files.
Instead of copying every file every time, FreeFileSync determines the differences between a source and a target folder and transfers only the minimum amount of data needed. FreeFileSync is open source software, available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

After downloading the software run the setup file.

Accept the license agreement and click “Next“

Select installation location and click “Next“

Select Components, click “Next“

Click “Next”

Installation is completed. Click “Finish.”

Two-way Synchronization
If both folders contain your work files and you want changes (creates, updates, and deletes) to flow in both directions, then select Two way.
Choose the source and destination location for Two-way Synchronization.

Click “Compare” to compare files and folders at the source and destination locations, then click “Synchronize” for two-way sync.

Click “Start” to start synchronization.

Synchronization has been completed.

Click on the “Log” tab to view the logs.

Two-way sync source and destination folders both contain identical data.

For demonstration purposes, we will delete the inventory file and weekly folder from the destination location USB Flash Drive.

Resync again, click “Compare” it will point out that the inventory file and Weekly Report folder missing in the destination location, click “Synchronize“.

The inventory file and the weekly report folder have been deleted, this is called two-way synchronization.

Mirror Synchronization
If only one folder contains your work files and the other is for backup, then select the Mirror variant. The left folder will be the source and the right folder the target of the synchronization.
Click “Compare” then click ” Synchronize“, Purchase and Sales files created at the source will be copied to the destination location.

After the process is completed, the purchase and sales files are copied to the destination location.

For demonstration purposes, we will create an information file at the destination location and try to compare and sync it with the source location.
Click “Compare” to see the information file created at destination location but it did not sync with the source location.
Select “Synchronize“.

Then click “Start“.

The information file is deleted from the destination location; this is how the mirror sync works.
