In this blog post, we will learn what disk cloning is, when to use disk cloning, and how to perform disk cloning using AOMEI Backupper standard free edition.
What is Disk Cloning?
Disk cloning is the process of copying an identical copy of one hard drive to another. The content is saved into an image file and transferred to a storage medium, which could be another computer hard drive or removable storage.
When to use Disk Cloning
- To upgrade your drive to a more capacity hard disk in case your computer system running out of disk space.
- Migrating data from HDD to SSD drives
- Making a duplicate copy of your drive as a backup.
- Mass deployment of operating system.
What is the difference between Disk Cloning and Disk Backup?
Disk backup and disk cloning are the two processes with the same goal of copying all the hard disk data, but still have some differences.
The disk cloning is the process of copying an entire hard disk along with data and the operating system. Disk cloning is used to replace an aging hard drive and upgrade the existing one.
The disk backup copies everything to an image file and helps you restore it in case you lose some of your data due to file or folder damage or corruption.
