Introduction
In this blog post, we will learn what system backup and system restore are and how to perform system backup and system restore using AOMEI Backupper standard free edition backup software.
What is System Backup?
System backup is the process of backing up the operating system, files, and vital system data. If you run the system backup, only the C drive will be backed up. It is meant to restore the computer back to normal in the event of hardware and software failure, malware attack, human error, etc.
System backup is different from partition and disk backup. Partition backup will take the backup of the partition that you select, for example, D: or E:, and disk backup means taking the backup of all the partitions on the disk, including all the data.
Perform System Backup
Open the AOMEI Backupper Standard application, select Backup and then System Backup.

Enter the task save, select the destination location where the backup image file will be saved, and then click Start Backup.

The system backup process started. While your backup is running, you can click on the “Settings Icon” and choose that, on completion of the backup, your computer should shutdown, restart, hibernate, or sleep, and then click OK.

After the backup is completed click Finish and checks the destination location where you save the backup image file.

Perform System Restore
If your computer system crashes or is unable to boot, restoring from the system backup is the best solution rather than reinstalling the complete operating system, which will be a time-consuming process.
System restore will not remove installed applications or the data that resides on your computer system. If you are taking regular system backups, then you can restore from the latest backup image file.
Follow the steps below to restore the System Backup.
Open the AOMEI Backupper Standard backup software, select Restore, then click Select Task.

Select the System Backup image file and click Next.

Select the Restore tab, choose “Restore this system backup” and then click Next.

At the operation summary window, review the system restore operation before executing it and then click “Start Restore.”

Click Yes to start the operation in Restart Mode.

The restore operation started. Wait for the process to complete.

Another way to restore is to click home, then click three lines on the right side of the system backup, and select Restore.
